    THE REAL BIBLICAL SELF-IMAGE

　

Thoughts needed to be reminded continuously:

1. I am a sinner:

賽 57:15  因 為 那 至 高 至 上 ､ 永 遠 長 存 （ 原 文 是 住 在 永 遠 ） 名 為 聖 者 的 如 此 說 ： 我 住 在 至 高
至 聖 的 所 在 ﹐ 也 與 心 靈 痛 悔 謙 卑 的 人 同 居 ； 要 使 謙 卑 人 的 靈 甦 醒 ﹐ 也 使 痛 悔 人 的 心 甦 醒 。

詩 51:5  我 是 在 罪 孽 裡 生 的 ﹐ 在 我 母 親 懷 胎 的 時 候 就 有 了 罪 。

2. I am weak, pitiful, small, insignificant

太 5:3  虛 心 的 人 有 福 了 ！ 因 為 天 國 是 他 們 的 。

4 哀 慟 的 人 有 福 了 ！ 因 為 他 們 必 得 安 慰 。

林後 12:9 他 對 我 說 ： 「 我 的 恩 典 夠 你 用 的 ﹐ 因 為 我 的 能 力 是 在 人 的 軟 弱 上 顯 得 完 全 。 」 所
以 ﹐ 我 更 喜 歡 誇 自 己 的 軟 弱 ﹐ 好 叫 基 督 的 能 力 覆 庇 我 。

太 9:27  耶 穌 從 那 裡 往 前 走 ﹐ 有 兩 個 瞎 子 跟 他 ﹐ 喊 叫 說 ： 「 大 衛 的 子 孫 ﹐ 可 憐 我 們 吧 ！ 」

3. Others are also sinful, weak, pitiful, small and insignificant. All men are dust. No one is great. I should not fear and admire anyone. I shouldn‘t compare with others !

賽 51:12  惟 有 我 ﹐ 是 安 慰 你 們 的 。 你 是 誰 ﹐ 竟 怕 那 必 死 的 人 ？ 怕 那 要 變 如 草 的 世 人 ？

賽 40:15  看 哪 ﹐ 萬 民 都 像 水 桶 的 一 滴 ﹐ 又 算 如 天 平 上 的 微 塵 ； 他 舉 起 眾 海 島 ﹐ 好 像 極 微 之
物 。黎 巴 嫩 的 樹 林 不 夠 當 柴 燒 ； 其 中 的 走 獸 也 不 夠 作 燔 祭 。萬 民 在 他 面 前 好 像 虛
無 ﹐ 被 他 看 為 不 及 虛 無 ﹐ 乃 為 虛 空 。

林前 4:7  使 你 與 人 不 同 的 是 誰 呢 ？ 你 有 甚 麼 不 是 領 受 的 呢 ； 若 是 領 受 的 ﹐ 為 何 自 誇 ﹐ 彷 彿 不 是 領 受 的 呢 ？

4. Through God I can do anything. It is the God (now inside me ! ) who is smart, great, powerful, beautiful, wonderful.

腓 4:13  我 靠 那 加 給 我 力 量 的 ﹐ 凡 事 都 能 做 。

5. God see me as preceous and important vessel.

-詩 8:4  便 說 ： 人 算 甚 麼 ﹐ 你 竟 顧 念 他 ？ 世 人 算 甚 麼 ﹐ 你 竟 眷 顧 他 ？
5 你 叫 他 比 天 使 （ 或 譯 ： 　 神 ） 微 小 一 點 ﹐ 並 賜 他 榮 耀 尊 貴 為 冠 冕 。

路 12:7  就 是 你 們 的 頭 髮 ﹐ 也 都 被 數 過 了 。 不 要 懼 怕 ﹐ 你 們 比 許 多 麻 雀 還 貴 重 ！ 」

6. My self-image should not be influenced by others' comments or what the world measures. All men are sinful and foolish before God.

7. I am unique and important in the eyes of God. I am indispensable in the body of Christ. I am also unique in the programme of the ministry of God. No one can replace my role in the kingdom of God.

林前 12: 12-31

　

Thinking that is unbiblical:

1. I am great, smart, having great potential, able and important.

(No one is great !)

林前 3:18 人 不 可 自 欺 。 你 們 中 間 若 有 人 在 這 世 界 自 以 為 有 智 慧 ﹐ 倒 不 如 變 作 愚 拙 ﹐ 好 成 為 有 智 慧 的 。

2. I should increase my self-image and so that I have more confidence to myself

( Self-confidence (without God) is itself a pride. It only draws us away from God. It makes man himself as God)

　

　

Differences between Godly self-iamge and Worldly self-image (as advocated by many psycholgical theory):

Godly self-image Worldy self-image
I am small and insignificant in essence I am not small, in fact , great and with great potential
I should pursuit GOD so that I realize my significance being from God I should remind MYSELF that I am significant and great
I do not feel small when compared with the ‘great and smart’ person because all men are dust. I should not feel small when compared with the ‘great and smart’ person because I am also great
Comparison with others are not needed Comparison with others may be needed (e.g.“I am not small because I am not so misable as some handicapped or poor people”)
humble before God pride before men
with the involvement of God without the involvement of God
self-image obtained by faith self-image influenced by what the world think
